Schedule for Saturday (August 13, 2022)
Schedule for Sunday (August 14, 2022)
In addition to a competitor limit for the whole competition, each event will have a separate limit. Registrations will be considered in the order that they are paid. If your paid registration includes events which have filled up, your registration will be accepted and modified to include only events which have space. Then, you will be placed on a waitlist for each full event you requested. Waitlisted competitors will be added if space becomes available until the waitlist closes on August 9.
Once your registration is accepted, you will not be able to change your registered events unless you contact the organizers. If you would like to add an event after registering, your request will be approved if there is space; otherwise, you will be placed on the waitlist. Requests to drop events are permitted until the deadlines on the General Info page. Note that the deadline to drop all of your events and thus receive a refund is slightly earlier than the deadline to drop some but not all events.
Click here to view your registration or waitlist status for each event.
The entire competition will have a limit of 45 competitors. 3x3x3 Blindfolded will have a limit of 30 competitors. 3x3x3 Fewest Moves and Square-1 will have a limit of 25 competitors. All other events will have a limit of 20 competitors. Limits for some events may be increased at the organizers' discretion.
|Event||Competitor Limit||Remaining Space|
|3x3x3 Fewest Moves||25||0|
All events will take place in Haines A44. In addition, Haines A28 has been reserved as a side room for practicing and socializing during the competition.
We'd like to emphasize that blindsolvers of all experience levels are welcome to compete! If this is your first blindfolded competition, here are a few important things to know:
- For blindfolded events, the competitor lifts the cover off the cube, not the judge!
- If you're judging a blindfolded event, don't place the paper between the competitor and the cube until after the competitor applies a turn to the cube. This is because a competitor is allowed to remove their blindfold and look at the cube again if they haven't applied any turns.
- In rounds with cumulative time limits, the judge writes how much time the competitor uses during a DNF attempt on the score card, e.g. DNF (1:23.45).
- A stopwatch must be used to time attempts longer than 10 minutes.
We're excited to see how much the SoCal blindsolving scene has grown over the past few years! Please feel free to reach out to the organization team if you have any questions.
If you are sick with COVID-19 and/or if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you may not attend this competition. Competitors must follow the CDC guidelines on quarantine and isolation; do not attend this competition during your quarantine or isolation period. If you have already paid the registration fee and you cannot attend the competition due to COVID-19, please contact the competition organizers for a full refund. In accordance with UCLA's COVID protocols, all attendees must wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status.
Click here for a map of campus, including parking structures. Parking Structures P4 and P5 are located near the venue. The cost for one day of parking at P4 is $14 and the cost for one day of parking at P5 is $20. For more information about costs and payment methods, see the "Parking Rates by Location" and "How to Pay" sections here.
Alternatively, consider taking a bus to campus. LA Metro, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, and Culver CityBus all operate routes to UCLA. Consult Google Maps for transit options.
While guests are permitted at no extra charge, we request that competitors keep guests to a minimum. (This is due to room capacity limitations—we have nothing against spectators!) Guests are required to read the COVID-19 Safety tab. Note that unlike most cubing competitions, blindfolded competitions are generally not spectator friendly. Since blindfolded events require significant levels of concentration, all attendees, including guests, are required to be silent in Haines A44 during blindfolded events and FMC. Competitors and guests can socialize freely in Haines A28 without disrupting the competition.
There are several places to eat on campus within a 10 minute walking distance from the venue. For a list of restaraunts on campus, click here; the hours are updated weekly, so check the page again a few days before the competition. Most of these restaurants are in Ackerman Union, which is in grid square E4 on this map.
Post-competition update: The unofficial event results can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XzGWwwdjzpL1FQ6TeSMEULfos4pIbgmJONqFPDsGUOU/. Congratulations to Margot Audero for winning 3x3x3 Rescramble and Josh Weimer and Neel Gore for winning 3x3x3 Team-Blind!
An unofficial event will be held after lunch on each day of the competition: 3x3x3 Rescramble on the Saturday, August 13, and 3x3x3 Team-Blind on Sunday, August 14. Competitors who compete in an unofficial event will be required to judge for that event.
